डॉ. सुशील चंद्र त्रिवेदी ‘मधुपेश’ जी ग्राम जीवन की समस्याओं—अशिक्षा, भुखमरी, बेरोजगारी व कुप्रथाओं—को देखकर डॉ. त्रिवेदी ने समाजसेवा का व्रत लिया। उन्होंने सार्वजनिक शिक्षोन्नयन संस्थान की स्थापना कर शिक्षा, कौशल विकास व नशा-निवारण के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय कार्य किए। ग्रामीण जीवन के उत्थान हेतु उन्होंने सरकारी योजनाओं को भी समाज तक पहुँचाया।
वृद्धजन सेवा को अपना प्रमुख ध्येय बनाकर उन्होंने उत्तर प्रदेश के अनेक जिलों में वृद्धाश्रम संचालित किए। जिनमें लखनऊ कानपुर झाँसी हरदोई और नैमिषारण्य वर्तमान समय मे चल रहे हैं जहाँ प्रति वृद्धाश्रम संख्या 150 है । उनके द्वारा संचालित कृष्ण कुटीर महिला आश्रय सदन, वृंदावन देश की एकमात्र ऐसी संस्था है जहाँ 1000 माताओं के लिए रोजगारयुक्त जीवन की व्यवस्था है।
उनकी सेवाओं के लिए भारत सरकार ने उन्हें ‘वयोश्रेष्ठ सम्मान 2018’ से अलंकृत किया। पूर्व राज्यपाल राम नाइक एवं वर्तमान राज्यपाल आनंदीबेन पटेल द्वारा समय-समय पर उनके कार्यों की सराहना की जाती रही है |
बाल्यकाल से ही विपन्न ग्राम जीवन में व्याप्त अशिक्षा, भुखमरी, बेरोजगारी, बीमारी एवं कुप्रथाओं से जकड़े हुए समाज को देखकर डॉ सुशील चंद्र त्रिवेदी के मन में एक चिंता का भाव सदैव बना रहा और इसी भाव के कारण उन्होंने समाज की सेवा का व्रत लिया। समाज के कठिन जीवन का अनुभव करने वाले त्रिवेदी जी ने सर्वप्रथम प्रथम अपने ही गांव में सार्वजनिक शिक्षोन्नयन संस्थान नाम से पूर्व माध्यमिक विद्यालय की आधारशिला रखी। यह उनके जीवन में एक क्रांतिकारी कदम था। त्रिवेदी जी ने अपने विचारों को विस्तार दिया। सेवा भाव के लिए उन्होंने जिस संस्था के संचालन का कार्य आरम्भ किया उसके लिए उन्होंने निरंतर प्रयास किया और उसी प्रयास का परिणाम था कि ग्रामीण जनों को उच्च शिक्षा के साथ ही साथ कौशल विकास से जोड़ने सरहनीय प्रयास किया।

‘मधुपेश’ उपनाम से सुविख्यात त्रिवेदी जी भविष्य द्रष्टा हैं। शिक्षा और सेवा के क्षेत्र में स्वयंसेवी संगठनों के माध्यम से कार्य करना कठिन है लेकिन त्रिवेदी जी ने अपने प्रयासों से उस कठिन को सरल बना दिया। अपने स्वयंसेवी संगठनों के साथ ही साथ उन्होंने भारत सरकार और राज्य सरकार दोनों के द्वारा संचालित योजनाओं के माध्यम से भी ग्रामीण जीवन को उत्कृष्ट बनाने का प्रयास किया। समाज में मदिरा पान के कारण अनेक परिवार टूट जाते हैं जिसे दृष्टिगत रखते हुए त्रिवेदी जी ने मध्य निषेध चिकित्सालय के माध्यम से हजारों परिवारों को एक बार फिर से समाज की मुख्य धारा से जोड़ते हुए ,एक स्वस्थ समाज के निर्माण में अपना महत्वपूर्णं योगदान दिया। त्रिवेदी जी का महत्वपूर्ण एवं सराहनीय कार्य वृद्ध जनों की सेवा है। उन्होंने वृद्ध जनों के कठिन जीवन का अनुभव किया। औद्योगिकरण ने समाज में बहुत कुछ बदला। समाज हम दो हमारे दो के सिद्धांत पर आगे बढ़ता रहा। अपने ही परिवार के वृद्धजन लोगों को बोझ लगने लगे। त्रिवेदी जी ने ऐसे ही वृद्धजनों की सेवा के लिए स्वयं को आगे किया जिसके परिणाम स्वरूप उत्तर प्रदेश में उनके द्वारा ‘सार्वजनिक शिक्षोन्नयन संस्थान ‘के माध्यम से अनेक वृद्धा आश्रम संचालित हो रहे हैं। वृद्धजन एक्ट भारत सरकार 2007/14 के अंतर्गत उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार के साथ मिलकर प्रदेश के 75 जनपदों में स्वयंसेवी संगठनों के माध्यम से वृद्धा आश्रमों के सफल संचालन का अनुभव त्रिवेदी जी के पास है।
त्रिवेदी जी के सेवा भाव को दृष्टिगत रखते हुए, सामाजिक न्याय एवं अधिकारिता मंत्रालय भारत सरकार के द्वारा बुजुर्गों की सेवा हेतु दिए जाने वाले सर्वश्रेष्ठ सम्मान ‘वयो श्रेष्ठ सम्मान 2018’ से उन्हें महामहिम राष्ट्रपति के द्वारा उन्हें सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। आपके द्वारा ‘कृष्ण कुटीर महिला आश्रय सदन वृंदावन मथुरा का संचालन किया जा रहा है। यह देश की एक मात्र ऐसी संस्था है जो 1000 संवासिनियों /माताओं के लिए रोजगार युक्त भारत सरकार की कल्याणकारी, महत्वाकांक्षी योजना के अंतर्गत संचालित है। उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व राज्यपाल राम नाइक जी एवं महामहिम राज्यपाल श्रीमती आनंदीबेन पटेल जी द्वारा समय-समय पर त्रिवेदी जी के द्वारा संचालित वृद्धाआश्रमों की सराहना की जाती रही है।
